Thank You

October 31, 2008

We had a great turn out last Saturday with over 30 people digging in. Thank you all for your time and effort. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay long, and with Darin on the bobcat most of the morning, we did a poor job organizing the labor force. It is clear that we will need to be more organized in the future and delegate responsibilities, including assigning project leaders to manage specific assignments. Please consider which projects you can organize and oversee.

We will be working on the park again this Saturday from 8:30 until 11:00. Please come help out if you can. Darin cut much of the lumber for the skills area ladder bridges last night. So we will need a few cordless power tools if you have them. We will also have another dozen McLeod hoes on hand. We are planning a ride at 11:00 on the existing downhill trails east and south of the park. There are some new ladder bridges and jumps that have greatly improved the trails, so plan on having some fun when the work is done.

Remember, this is a park for mountain bikers built by mountain bikers. Although Eagle Mountain City and The Ranches HOA have generously supported park construction financially, it is all of our volunteer labor that will get it built. Please spread the word and invite your friends to help out.

The Dirt on the Bike Park

October 24, 2008

We had dump trucks hauling dirt all day on Friday. A bobcat and bulldozer did some trail blazing as well. I’ve only built trail with hand tools, so it was strange to sit back and watch. Darin and I are banking on a good turn out of vounteer labor tomorrow to begin shaping the pump track and finish cutting and smoothing the Juniper Trail.

Back in Business!

October 23, 2008

The park is, once again, ready to be built. We had a pretty good turn out in July before construction was put on hold pending a property issue. The issue has finally been resolved and we are back in business. A bulldozer started to clear the two lower trails this morning. Friday we will have 60-70 dump truck loads of dirt delivered. Saturday we need all the help we can get. We will finish cutting the Juniper Trail, build the entrance trail, clear some trail sections that cross the gas easement, clear the skills area routes, and probably work on the pump track and ladder bridges. Please bring picks, shovels, tampers, rakes, and hoes if you have them. We will have a dozen McLeod’s there if you don’t have anything of your own. If you have a cordless drill and saw you could bring along, that would be a great help in building the ladder bridges. The plan is to meet at 8:30 am at the bottom of the park on Golden Eagle Road – directly under the power lines. We will be cooking up some grub at 12:30 so let me know if you can make it. If anybody has a Bobcat or operates one, please let me know, we may rent one if we can keep it busy on Saturday.

Please let me know if you think you can make it out this Saturday. I don’t want to run out of food!
